RESULTS:  “The present systematic review (The search was applied to PubMed and adapted for EMBASE (1990—present),  found limited evidence to suggest better long-term weight loss and more favorable long-term changes in body composition and chronic disease risk factors when diet is combined with aerobic exercise compared with either diet or aerobic exercise alone. However, no advantage for minimizing weight regain or changes in body composition or chronic disease risk factors following weight loss was shown for any weight loss mode.”

“Results from trials investigating differences in weight regain following weight loss by diet or diet+aerobic exercise do not suggest an obvious benefit for weight loss by either weight loss method [77], [80], [83], [85],[87][90]…. during the follow-up period, which ranged from 18 weeks to 12 months (a long ways from 5-10 years!), the percentage of lost weight that was regained was similar in both the diet (∼58%) and diet+aerobic exercise groups (∼53%).The finding of no difference in weight regain with weight loss by diet or diet+aerobic exercise is in agreement with those of several previous reviews [65][67], [70].”
