A few months ago, it became official. I was completely sick of frozen blueberries. They tasted like DIET. A true love affair with an amazing food was coming to an end, but, at the same time, I really didn’t want it to because of the antioxidants and other health benefits blueberries offer. What could I do? I studied EET’s Guidelines and reflected on my eating timing patterns over the last 7 years. I realized this happens to us in many areas of our lives…..

3 Step Brain Hack to Create A New Craving
1) STOP EATING THE FOOD YOU WANT TO CRAVE.
This strategy works perfectly for foods like pizza and ice cream, no? So, let’s use the power of cravings to our advantage!! NEVER force yourself to eat the food you want to crave — If you don’t enjoy it– DON’T EAT IT! (EET Guideline #4). I completely stopped eating frozen blueberries for about 3 weeks.
2) REINTRODUCE THE FOOD AS PART OF A NEW “COMBO RECIPE” ALONG WITH A FOOD YOU CURRENTLY CRAVE REGULARLY.
I remembered super-duper star EETer Kathy used to love her blueberries along with her oat bran (which I still love and crave almost every day) microwaved together to make a “muffin”. That didn’t sound too bad, so I tried that, keeping the quantity of frozen blueberries very small to start with. IMPORTANT: ONLY EAT THE FOOD YOU WANT TO CRAVE IN THE NEW COMBO RECIPE — AVOID THE OLD WAY AT ALL COSTS — IT WILL HARM YOUR EFFORTS TO CRAVE IT!
3) PHASE UP THE QUANTITY OF THE FOOD YOU WANT TO CRAVE IN THE NEW RECIPE OVER THE NEXT 6 WEEKS.
I VERY slowly added more blueberries to my oat bran, and NEVER ate them on their own. After about 6 weeks of this, I found I wanted MORE blueberries and liked the combo better than oat bran on it’s own! I was once again craving frozen blueberries and I find I am craving them more and more every day!!
NOTE: If you don’t find yourself enjoying and craving the food as part of the new recipe after 6 weeks, repeat the 3 step brain hack but try a different combo recipe. Sooner or later it will click.
Trust me, it was an amazing feeling to be eating my Long John Silvers this weekend and think “you know what this could use….FROZEN BLUEBERRIES!”
