EET Sisters’ Final Half Marathon Training “Fun Run” – 1 Week To Go

Part of the “Fun Run” for the Sisters’ EET as they finish up their half marathon training for Nov. 7

This Sunday is the SF Half Marathon, and our two fearless EETers had their final training exactly scheduled 1 week before the race.  A fun little trail run that was part of the same route Mr. EET ran on his fifth and final training run for the Napa Marathon last March  (you can read about that run if you like by clicking HERE) .  A chance to enjoy a beautiful run in the hills and get their minds right.

If you need to catch up on the handful of training runs the EET sisters have BREEZED through (7 total for Mrs. EET and 11 for Sister EET – training STARTED SEPT 18, 2010) in preparation for the half marathon click HERE

Here are their thoughts – next time we hear from them will be after the race – wish them luck!

RUN # 7 SCHEDULED FOR ABOUT 5 MILES “Fun Relaxing Trail Run” — Relax and enjoy a short but challenging run to go into the half marathon with a relaxed feeling to remember.

Final Training Run:  After getting over the initial resentment that our final “fun” trail run included two huge hills, I actually really enjoyed this 4-5 mile jog.  The hills were big, and I was dreading them, but they were much easier than I had anticipated.  And, the run was pretty fun!  I’m glad we took it on and it definitely helped to prepare me for the ascent from the Marina up to the Golden Gate Bridge that we’ll be facing next Sunday.

Relaxed and ready for next week.  Hopefully the beautiful weather will hold out.

RUN #11 SCHEDULED FOR ABOUT 5 MILES “Fun Relaxing Trail Run” — Relax and enjoy a short but challenging run to go into the half marathon with a relaxed feeling to remember.

(note:  Sister EET had 15 runs available to her for the EET half Marathon Challenge but, thanks to her EET workouts feels completely prepared with only 11!   Sure hope we know what we’re doing!)

One week to go and I’m feeling very prepared, both physically and mentally.

We did a one-hour trail run yesterday with some unbelievably steep hills. It’s the same one I did a couple of weeks ago but with an extra bit added in which included an extra unbelievably steep hill.  (I couldn’t help but notice yesterday that the extra part we added in was our ENTIRE run two months ago on my first day of training. What an improvement!) I did the trail run in the same amount of time as two weeks ago even though it was longer, and I took 5 minutes off of the 25-minute climb.

I will continue with intervals this week but, really, I’m feeling very set. I think it’s going to be a blast next Sunday. The KEY THING though is that I have to remember to stick with a my pace and my race plan no matter what. I can’t let the adrenalin and the crowd let me get carried away and burn out earlier. I think the practice run on the actual course will be instrumental as a reminder of how it should feel.  Can’t wait!
